Our Story

The Bobby Telfer Memorial Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(3). Our major fundraiser is an annual golf scramble that originated in 1999 to commemorate the life of Bobby Telfer of Lansing, Michigan. In the past, all proceeds from this charitable event were used for scholarships, awarded to those student athletes graduating from Lansing Eastern High School.

With the success of donations and participants, the scholarship has expanded to other Lansing schools. It is open to student athletes from Lansing Eastern High School, Lansing Everett High School, Lansing Sexton High School and Lansing Catholic High School.

Over the last 26 years, $91,000 in scholarships has been awarded to Lansing School students to assist them and their families in addressing the ever-increasing cost of college. Scholarships will be awarded to student athletes that show a need for financial assistance.

About Bobby Telfer

The Bobby Telfer Memorial Scholarship originated in 1999 to commemorate the life of Bobby Telfer of Lansing, Michigan. Bobby unexpectedly passed away in 1998. Bobby was a 1986 graduate from Lansing Eastern High School where he played football and ran track. In 1985, Bobby was the CAC defensive player of the year in football. Bobby went on to attend Ferris State University where he continued his love for football.

The Bobby Telfer Scholarship is a program offering tuition assistance for post-secondary (college or skilled trade) education to student athlete high school graduates within the Lansing School District boundaries.

Mission Statement

The Bobby Telfer Scholarship Fund is dedicated to helping individuals in financial need through a scholarship program for residents of Lansing, who are continuing their education. Our goal is to help deserving individuals within our community achieve their career goals, an objective which has the added benefit of bettering the community at large. In short, our goal is to ensure that no deserving scholar in our community will be deprived of higher education because of financial constraints.
